FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.
Is CatchMate Coarse free? How much does it cost?
CatchMate Coarse is a subscription-based web application. We are currently accepting registrations by invitation only while we progress through our research and development phase, so subscription pricing isn't being charged yet — we'll publish full pricing details before opening to the public.
Does it work offline?
Yes — we have designed the core session-recording workflow to work without a signal. The app caches itself so it loads instantly even on a poor connection. If you lose signal mid-session, you can continue logging catches and end the session normally; everything is stored on your device and syncs to the server automatically the moment connection returns. A banner at the top of the screen shows how many catches are waiting to upload. See Working offline for the full breakdown.
Always create your new fishing session when you have phone reception — the night before at home, or anywhere with stable phone reception. Once the session is created, do not start that session until you are all set up and ready to fish. As soon as you start the session, the session-recording workflow will cover you for any loss of phone reception.
What still requires a connection: starting a brand-new session, the AI Advisor, Venue Maps, and the social and statistics pages. Mobile data on the bank is sufficient for everything that needs it.
Can I use it on a tablet?
Yes. Go to Profile → App Settings → Appearance → Device mode and switch to Tablet layout for a wider, more comfortable view.
I forgot my password — what do I do?
Tap Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen and enter your email address. A reset link is sent straight away.
Can I add sessions I fished in the past?
Yes. When starting a new session, you can change the date and time to a previous date. Your historical session will appear in the correct position in your session history.
How do I change my weight unit?
Go to Profile → App Settings → Appearance → Weight Unit and choose lb / oz or kg / g. New catches use the unit you select. Existing catches keep the unit they were originally entered in to preserve data accuracy.
Can my friends see all my sessions?
Friends can see sessions you've made visible (sessions you end are shared to the feed by default, but this can be adjusted in App Settings). Personal stats like full session details and PBs are visible on your public profile.
What species are supported?
CatchMate supports all common UK coarse species including: Tench, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Chub, Barbel, Dace, Bleak, Crucian Carp, Mirror Carp, Leather Carp, F1, Ide, Pike, Zander, Eel, Gudgeon, Wels Catfish, Bream and more. If you wish for an additional species to be added please do reach out to us for us to review the submission.
How are match competition results calculated?
The angler with the highest total weight from their linked session wins. If weights are equal, it's recorded as a draw. Competitions are scored automatically when both anglers have ended their linked sessions. See Match competitions for the full status flow.
Can I delete a session?
Yes. Open the session from Sessions → History, scroll down, and tap Delete Session. This also deletes all catches, casts, and the AI debrief associated with that session. It cannot be undone.
Why can't I see the Getting Started card any more?
The card dismisses permanently once all three setup steps are complete, or if you manually close it. It's designed to appear only until you're set up.
I'm not getting notifications even though I've enabled them.
See Notifications not arriving for the full troubleshooting checklist. The most common cause on iPhone is the system-level setting at iPhone Settings → Notifications → CatchMate → Allow Notifications.
How do I leave a league?
Open the league, tap the three-dot menu (⋮), and select Leave League. Your historical results within the league remain but you'll no longer be included in future rounds.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Go to Profile → App Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently and irreversibly deletes your account and all associated data including sessions, catches, photos, friends, competitions, and leagues. This cannot be undone. See Privacy & your data for what's stored before you decide.
