Privacy & your data

A plain-English summary of what data CatchMate stores about you, where it lives, who can see it, and what you can do with it.

What we store

  • Account data — Name, email, username, password (hashed), profile photo, optional 2FA secret.
  • Fishing data — Sessions, catches, casts, photos, venues, tackle profiles, presets, and your private venue intel notes.
  • Social data — Friends list, friend requests, feed posts, reactions, comments, league memberships, match results.
  • Device & usage data — The notification token for any device you've enabled push notifications on, and basic technical logs needed to diagnose errors.

Where it lives

Your data is stored in the CatchMate cloud database. Catch photos are stored in object storage hosted in the United Kingdom or European Union. Backups are taken regularly.

Who can see what

  • Private to you — Your venue intel notes, free-text session notes, exact catch lists, peg numbers, and any sessions you've marked as private.
  • Shared with friends — Your public profile, your top personal bests, your username, and any sessions you've made visible to the feed.
  • Shared with linked match opponents — For a linked competition match, each opponent sees the other's session weight, catch count, and species breakdown for that session.

AI features

Session debriefs and Advisor responses are generated by sending the relevant data (your session summary or your typed question, plus minimal context) to a third-party AI provider for processing. Responses come back, are saved against your account, and the request is not retained for AI model training.

Exporting your data

Go to Profile → App Settings → Data → Export data to download every session and catch as a JSON file you can keep.

Deleting your account

Go to Profile → App Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data — sessions, catches, photos, friends, competitions, leagues — within a short retention window. This cannot be undone.
