Settings
App Settings
Everything in CatchMate is configurable from the Settings page. To open it, select Profile from the Navigation Bar and then select App Settings. You will be required to Save any changes performed in App Settings, navigating away from App Settings without saving will result in lost changes.
Account
Username
Your @username is how other anglers find you for friend requests, matches and competitions. Tap the field, type a new username and press Save. Usernames must be 3–20 characters and may contain letters, numbers, underscores and dots. CatchMate checks availability in real time and shows a green tick when the name is free.
Change Password
Enter your current password, then type and confirm a new one (minimum 6 characters). Press Update Password. If you have forgotten your current password, log out and use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in screen.
Two-Factor Authentication
Add an extra layer of security to your account. Tap Set Up Authenticator App and follow the on-screen steps — either tap Open in Authenticator App to launch your authenticator directly, or scan the QR code if you are setting up from a second device. Once enabled the status banner turns green. You can disable 2FA here at any time.
Tackle Defaults
This section links through to your saved tackle profiles and bait library. It only appears when the corresponding features are switched on in Global Defaults.
Manage Tackle Profiles — view, edit and delete the setups you have saved (rods, lines, rigs, hooks and so on). Tackle profiles can be loaded when you start or edit a session.
Manage Bait Library — add and organise the baits you use most. Baits from the library can be attached to tackle profiles.
Species
Species Order
Tap Edit Species Order to open the species list editor. Drag species into the order you prefer — this controls the sequence they appear in the catch-logging screen and in Quick Log.
Layout
Session Tile Order
Controls what information appears on each session card in your sessions list and the order it is shown. Tap Edit to open the layout editor.
Bottom Nav
Lets you rearrange the tabs in the bottom navigation bar to suit how you use the app. Tap Edit to open the nav editor.
Pursuit Settings — Coarse
This section lets you customise how CatchMate behaves specifically when you are fishing Coarse. Any setting you configure here overrides the equivalent Global Default for Coarse sessions only. Fly and Sea disciplines are coming soon.
Tap the Coarse tab at the top of this section to make sure you are editing the right pursuit. A Reset Coarse to global defaults button appears at the bottom whenever you have active overrides — tap it to clear all Coarse-specific settings and fall back to your Global Defaults.
Cast timer
When on, a timer starts automatically each time you log a cast, tracking how long your rig has been in the water. The elapsed time is shown on the session screen and feeds into cast efficiency analytics. Turn this off if you prefer to fish without cast timing.
Multi-rod
Enables support for fishing more than one rod at a time. When turned on, an extra control appears to set how many rods you fish with — either 2 rods or 3 rods. Each rod gets its own cast-tracking slot on the session screen. Disabling Multi-rod removes the additional rod slots.
Bait log
Records the feed bait you use during a session. When enabled you can choose how feed bait is measured:
- Pints — volume-based (typical for maggots, casters, hemp and similar loose feed)
- Weight — mass-based (grams or kg)
Groundbait
Tracks groundbait and method mixes. When enabled you can choose how groundbait is measured:
- Weight (kg) — most common for match groundbait
- Pints — volume-based
Bait library
Enables the bait library for Coarse sessions, so you can attach named baits to your rigs and tackle profiles.
Elastic rating (Coarse only)
Records the elastic grade fitted to pole setups. When on, you can log which elastic strength you are running on each pole section. This is useful for tracking whether different elastics affect catch rate or fish size. This setting does not appear in any other pursuit.
Keepnet tracking
When on, a keepnet is attached to your session and catches are automatically tallied into it. CatchMate displays a running total weight and fish count. Turn this off for catch-and-release sessions where you do not want keepnet totals.
Official Weigh-In Weight
Adds an "Official weigh-in" field to your session end-of-day summary, where you can record the verified match weight separately from your logged catch total. Useful for checking how close your in-session tally was to the scales.
Default keepnets
Sets how many keepnets open automatically at the start of a Coarse session:
- Auto — CatchMate decides based on context
- None (0) — no keepnets opened
- 1, 2, 3 or 4 — that number of keepnets opens immediately when the session starts
This can always be adjusted once the session is running.
Recast Alarm
The recast alarm is an in-app audio alarm that reminds you when it is time to recast. It plays through your device's speaker regardless of whether the screen is locked, as long as the app is open in the foreground or background. It is independent of the cast timer — you can run both together or either on its own.
Toggle Recast Alarm on to enable it for Coarse sessions, then configure the options below:
Default alarm interval — the time interval the alarm counts down from when you start it during a session. Choose from: 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m, 45m, 1h, 1h 30m, 2h, 3h, 4h. This is the pre-set default — you can always adjust the interval on the fly during a live session.
Alarm tone — choose the sound the alarm makes:
- Beep — 3 short high beeps
- Chirp — 5 rapid high-pitched chirps
- Bell — single resonant bell tone
- Alert — two-tone rising alert
- Buzz — two harsh buzzer bursts
Press Test tone to preview the selected sound at your current volume setting.
Visible intervals in session — controls which time options appear on the alarm picker during a live session. Select as many or as few as you like. If nothing is selected, all intervals are shown. Useful if you only ever fish at a couple of intervals and want to remove the clutter.
Alarm mode:
- Single Alarm — the alarm fires once when the countdown reaches zero, then stops. Restart it manually once your rig is back in the water.
- Auto Repeat — the alarm fires every interval continuously until you stop it manually. Suitable for sessions where you want a constant reminder.
Default Session Timer
Pre-sets the session duration for Coarse sessions. Choose from: Off, 1h, 1h 30m, 2h, 2h 30m, 3h, 3h 30m, 4h, 5h, 6h, 7h, 8h. Off means the session runs as an open-ended timer with no automatic end time. Whatever you set here can still be changed when starting or editing an individual session.
Global Defaults
These settings apply to all pursuits unless a pursuit-specific override is set above.
Species Recording — when on, you are prompted to select which species each catch is when logging it. Turn this off for sessions where you are not tracking individual species.
Fish Weight — when on, a weight field appears whenever you log a catch. Turn this off for pure numbers-based sessions where weight is not relevant.
Tackle Profiles — when on, you can save, load and manage tackle profiles — named setups containing rod, line, rig and hook details. These can be selected when starting a session to pre-fill your tackle information.
Catch Photos — enables photo upload for individual catches. When on, a camera button appears on the catch log screen so you can attach a photo to any fish you record.
Quick Log — shows one-tap species buttons directly on the session screen. Lets you log a catch of a specific species in a single tap without opening the full catch form. Species shown are drawn from your Species Order setting.
Voice Catch Entry — lets you log catches hands-free by speaking. Say the species name and weight and CatchMate records the catch automatically. Requires microphone permission.
Catch Timeline — shows a visual timeline of catches on the session detail screen, plotting each fish against the clock so you can see when activity peaked. Turn this off to keep the session view simpler.
Rod Roost — the Rod Roost is a quick-switch panel that keeps your additional rods and poles ready to activate during any session without having to rebuild the setup from scratch. When enabled, a Max Rods in Roost control appears — use the +/− stepper to set the cap on how many rod setups can be held in the roost at once (minimum 2, maximum 12). Note: if Rod Roost is turned off, Multi-rod is also automatically disabled.
Bait Consumption — logs the total feed bait used across a session for efficiency analysis. When enabled a sub-option appears to choose whether feed bait is measured in Pints or Weight.
Groundbait — tracks groundbait and method mixes used per session. When enabled a sub-option appears to choose whether groundbait is measured in Weight (kg) or Pints.
Baits — enables the bait library globally, letting you build a named list of baits and assign them to tackle profiles.
Analytics
Controls which analytics panels appear on the Analytics screen. All panels are independent — turn off any you do not use to keep the screen focused.
- Overview — monthly activity chart and catch rate trend
- Species & Patterns — species mix, water type breakdown and seasonal catch trends
- Weather Intelligence — weather correlation analysis and a tactics matrix showing which conditions produce the best results
- Tackle & Bait — cast analysis, tackle breakdown, top performing baits and terminal tackle data
Push Notifications
(Only shown when your browser/device supports push notifications.)
Enable Notifications — the master toggle for push notifications from CatchMate. If your browser has blocked notifications, this shows "Blocked" — go to your device Settings > Browser > Notifications to allow them. When enabled, individual notification types appear below.
Individual notification controls:
- Friend requests — when someone sends you a friend request
- Friend request accepted — when someone accepts your request
- Match challenges — when a friend challenges you to a match
- Competition results — when a match is finalised
- Friend finishes a session — when a friend wraps up a session
- Friend PB — when a friend sets a new personal best
- New league round — when a new round begins in a league
- League round results — when a round is scored
- League overtake — when your league position changes
Each type can be toggled on or off independently.
Weight Units
Choose how fish weights are displayed and entered throughout the app:
- Kg / Grams — metric (used in most UK match fishing)
- Lbs / Oz — imperial (traditional angling weights)
Depth Units
Choose how water depth is displayed and entered:
- Metres / CM — metric (e.g. 1.5m or 80cm)
- Feet / Inches — imperial (e.g. 4ft 11in)
Privacy
Visible to Other Anglers — when on, other CatchMate users can find your profile when searching for friends or setting up competitions. Turn this off to become undiscoverable — no one will be able to send you friend requests or match challenges.
Share Sessions to Friend Feed — when on, CatchMate asks you at the end of each session whether you would like to share a session summary to your friends' feed. The prompt is optional every time — turning this setting on does not automatically share anything. Turn it off to skip the prompt entirely and keep all sessions private.
Include Me in Friend Leaderboards — when on, your stats (total weight, biggest fish, sessions logged) are visible to your friends on the leaderboard. Turn this off to hide your stats while still being able to see the leaderboard yourself.
Device Type
Tell CatchMate what type of device you are using so the layout scales correctly.
- Phone — compact single-column layout optimised for portrait smartphone screens
- Tablet — expanded layout that fills wider screens with more information visible at once
Export Data
Download a copy of your data at any time.
- Download Config — exports your app settings and tackle profiles as a JSON file. Use this to back up your configuration or transfer it to another device.
- Download Photos — bundles all your catch photos into a single ZIP file for download.
- Import Config — restores settings and tackle profiles from a previously exported JSON file. Tap Import and select the file from your device.
Display Theme
- Light — bright and clear, best in daylight
- Dark — easier on the eyes and saves battery during long sessions
