Swim Depths

Recording swim depths during a coarse session

This article explains how coarse anglers can record swim depths in CatchMate — either per rod or pole line using the inline depth button, or across the whole swim using the Swim Depths panel.

Recording a rod's depth inline

Each rod or pole in your session's rod roster has a small depth button — it shows a wave icon, or the current depth if one is already saved (e.g. "42in" or "1.07m"). Use it to attach a depth reading directly to a specific line.

Steps

  1. Open a session (live or historical).
  2. In the rod roster, tap the Depth button on the rod or pole line you want to record depth for.
  3. An inline editor appears below that row, labelled Swim depth for this rod.
  4. If you have a peg profile saved for this venue and peg, a row of chips labelled Load from Peg X appears — tap any chip to pre-fill the depth from your stored profile.
  5. Enter the depth:
    • Metric: type a decimal number in the m box (e.g. 1.07 for a metre-plus depth on the 13m line, or 0.45 for a shallow margin).
    • Imperial: enter whole numbers in the ft and in boxes separately (e.g. 3 in the ft box and 6 in the in box for three-and-a-half feet).
  6. To save this reading to the permanent peg profile as well, switch Save to peg profile on and type a label — for example 13m line, 6m line, or Margin.
  7. Tap Save depth — or Save depth + update Peg X profile if the toggle is on.

What this gives you: The depth is attached to that pole line for the session. If you also saved to the peg profile, the depth marker pins on the venue map update immediately.

Tip: If no peg pin exists on the map yet, a toast appears: "Peg X depth saved — Add a Peg X marker on your venue map to see depths there." Tap Open Map in the toast to go directly to the venue map and drop the pin.

Recording depths across the whole swim

The Swim Depths panel lets you map multiple positions in one go — ideal for plumbing up before the all-in. It includes a bar-chart visualisation of your swim profile.

Steps

  1. Open a session (live or historical).
  2. Scroll down to the Swim Depths section and tap Add.
  3. Choose a position:
    • Tap one of the quick-select chips — Near Bank, 6m, 8m, 10m, 11m, 13m, Far Bank — these match typical pole fishing lines exactly.
    • Or type a custom label in the Custom position… field (e.g. Island shelf, Snake lake margin).
  4. Enter the depth:
    • Metric: type a decimal in the m box (e.g. 0.76 for the 6m line, 1.07 for the 13m line).
    • Imperial: enter feet and inches separately (e.g. 3 ft and 0 in for exactly three feet; 2 ft and 6 in for two-and-a-half feet).
  5. Tap Add. Repeat for each position — the bar chart updates after every entry.
  6. When you're done, choose a save option:
    • Save to session — stores the depths against this session only.
    • Update peg profile — Peg X — saves to the permanent peg profile for this venue and peg, and refreshes the depth marker pins on the venue map.

What this gives you: A visual swim profile showing the lake bed contour across all your lines — and, if you chose "Update peg profile", a permanent depth record ready for every future visit to this peg.

Live vs historical sessions

There is no functional difference. You can plumb up and record depths in real time during a live session, or add and correct depth records at any time from a historical session. Peg profile updates take effect immediately regardless of when you make them.
