Understanding peg profiles for coarse fishing

This article explains what a peg profile is in CatchMate, why it matters for coarse anglers who return to the same pegs across matches and pleasure sessions, and how it connects to the venue map.

What is a peg profile?

A peg profile is a permanent, named set of depth readings attached to a specific venue and peg number — completely separate from any individual session. For example, your profile for Kingham Winnall Moors, Peg 14 might contain:

  • Long pole · 42in (1.07m)
  • 6m line · 30in (0.76m)
  • Margin · 18in (0.46m)

Peg profiles persist indefinitely. Whether you return to that peg next weekend or next winter, your plumbed depths are waiting for you.

Why it matters for coarse fishing

Plumbing up takes time. If you fish the same pegs across matches or pleasure sessions, saving your depths once to the peg profile means you never need to re-plumb from scratch — your readings are there before you've set up your rod rest. The profile also drives the depth marker pins on the venue map, giving you a visual record of the lake bed contour at a glance.

How to build a peg profile

You create or update a profile from within any session — live or historical — using two routes:

Per-rod inline editor:

  1. Tap the Depth button on a rod or pole in the rod roster.
  2. Enter the depth (e.g. 1.07 in the m box, or 3 ft and 6 in the in box).
  3. Switch Save to peg profile on and add a label (e.g. 13m line, 6m line, Margin).
  4. Tap Save depth + update Peg X profile.

Swim Depths panel:

  1. Scroll to Swim Depths in the session and tap Add.
  2. Add entries for each position — label and depth.
  3. Tap Update peg profile — Peg X to save all entries at once.

Both routes update the same peg profile. There is no limit on the number of entries.

When the profile syncs to the map

  • On every depth save: whenever you tap Update peg profile, the depth marker pins on the venue map refresh immediately.
  • When you first drop a peg pin: if depths are already saved in the profile before the pin exists, the depth marker pins are created the moment you tap Drop Pin on the map.

See Putting coarse swim depths on the venue map for the full pin-dropping walkthrough.

Using the profile in a live session

When you tap the Depth button on a rod during a session, CatchMate checks whether a peg profile exists for the current venue and peg. If it does, a row of Load from Peg X chips appears — one per saved entry. Tap a chip to pre-fill the depth in a single tap, then save. Your plumbed depths from last time are ready in seconds.
