Sessions

Cast tracking

Cast tracking records every individual cast made during a session, giving you detailed data on cast rates, catch-to-cast ratios, and how each rod or peg position performed.

To log a cast

On the live session screen, tap the Cast button for the rod you're casting. Each cast is time-stamped automatically and a stopwatch starts counting up from that moment.

For multi-rod sessions, each active rod has its own compact cast timer running simultaneously so you can track all rods independently.

Cast results

When you retrieve or reel in without a catch, tap Reel In — or press the reset icon to the right of Reel In — to stop the stopwatch and record the cast duration as a blank.

When a fish takes, press Add Catch or tap a Quick Log species button. The moment you do, the cast timer pauses and the elapsed time is recorded as that catch's cast duration. The timer then resets ready for your next cast.

Recast alarm

The Recast Alarm is a separate countdown timer — independent of your cast duration stopwatch — designed to keep you on a consistent feeding rhythm. In method feeder fishing, recasting regularly keeps bait going in and fish feeding. The alarm tells you when it's time.

Starting the alarm:

  1. In the live session screen, find the Recast alarm card (orange bell icon).
  2. Tap an interval preset — 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m, 45m, 1h, and more.
  3. Tap Start. A live countdown appears with an orange pulse indicator.
  4. When the timer reaches zero, an alarm sound plays and the card flashes orange with "Recast!" — even if the app is in the background or your screen is off.

Single alarm vs. Auto-repeat:

There are two alarm modes, controlled by the Repeat toggle (loop icon) on each alarm card:

  • Single alarm (default): The alarm fires once when the countdown reaches zero, then stops. Tap Start again after you've recast to begin the next countdown. Best when your cast timing varies or you want manual control.
  • Auto-repeat: As soon as the alarm fires, the countdown immediately restarts for the same interval — no tapping required. Best for match fishing or when you want a consistent, hands-free recasting rhythm throughout the session.

You can switch between modes mid-session by tapping the Repeat icon — orange means auto-repeat is on, grey means single alarm.

If the alarm fires while the app is in the background: CatchMate detects this the moment you return to the screen and plays the alarm sound immediately, so you won't miss it even if your phone screen was off.

Resetting the alarm: Tap the reset icon (circular arrow) at any time to stop the countdown and return to the preset selector.

Alarm settings

Go to Settings → Recast Alarm to configure your alarm defaults:

  • Enable / disable the recast alarm feature entirely
  • Default interval — which preset is selected when you open a session
  • Alarm tone — choose from several tones and preview them
  • Volume — set how loud the alarm plays
  • Custom presets — choose which interval buttons appear during live sessions (defaults to all available if none are selected)
  • Alarm mode — set your preferred default (Single alarm or Auto-repeat). You can still override this per-timer during a session using the Repeat toggle on the alarm card.

Session analytics

After a session ends, open the Session Analytics section to review your cast efficiency:

  • Total casts / With fish / Blanks — full session breakdown
  • Strike rate — percentage of casts that produced a fish
  • Avg time to bite — average time from casting to a take on catching casts
  • Avg cast duration — average time your rig was in the water per cast

When you used two or more different rigs or bait setups during a session, a per-setup breakdown table appears below the overall stats showing the strike rate, average time to bite, and average cast duration for each setup individually — useful for comparing which bait or rig was working best.
