Mapping swim photos
Use swim photos to record what a specimen swim looks like and annotate depths, catch spots, snags, features, and margins. Link photos to pegs so the visual record, lake feature map and depth profile can be reviewed together.
Linking a photo to a peg
- Open a saved venue and go to its Photos tab.
- Add or open a swim photo.
- Tag it with the relevant peg number.
- Save the photo and check that it appears in the peg's photo gallery.
A linked photo can be opened from the venue, the peg's map pin, or the peg profile. Linking identifies the swim; it does not by itself create a map pin or change a depth profile.
Adding and moving photo annotations
Open the photo and use the visible annotation action to add a pin. The available control can vary by where the photo was opened from, so do not assume that the pencil or edit mode is the only entry point.
Photo annotations can be:
- Depth — a depth value, optional location label, and cast distance from the bank
- Catch Spot — where a fish was caught
- Snag — an underwater snag or obstacle
- Feature — a notable feature in the image
- Margin — a margin position
Tap an existing annotation to edit its label, type or value. Press and drag it to move it on the image. Review the annotation's position and details before saving.
Recording a photo depth and cast distance
For a Depth annotation, enter the depth and, where known, the cast distance. Use the location label to distinguish readings such as Near margin, 1/3 out, Middle, 2/3 out, Far margin, or Far bank. The cast distance is displayed in metres or yards according to your selected preference.
The photo's own location label takes priority over the overall direction of the photo when CatchMate organises readings. If a camera bearing is available, it can help relate the photo view to the venue map.
Relating photo depths to map pins
A photo annotation, map depth pin and peg profile reading are separate pieces of information even when they describe the same real-world depth. Existing correct information should not be duplicated.
When a depth annotation has a cast distance and is linked to a peg, CatchMate may offer a Place depth pins on map or pull-from-map action when it detects missing or unmatched information. Review the reading and proposed position first. If you choose to project it, CatchMate uses the peg position, peg bearing and cast distance to propose a map location; confirm the preview before saving.
Projected pins show 🔗 Synced from Peg [N] depth profile. A manually placed map pin remains under your control and is not silently moved by a bearing or anchor change.
Reviewing depth information in the venue and session
Photo depth readings can be surfaced in the venue's Depths tab and included in the relevant peg profile while retaining their photo source. When a session venue matches a saved venue, the session can show depth references for the current peg and open the venue map.
Use these references for planning and plumbing up, but check the actual water on the day. A projected position is a practical organising aid, not a surveyed underwater location.
Avoiding duplicate sync actions
If a photo annotation and map pin already show the correct depth, peg, cast distance and location, do not use a sync action merely because a suggestion is visible. Compare the source details first. Use placement or pull-from-map when information is genuinely missing or unmatched, then review the result before saving.
