Adding a venue

To add a venue

Saved venues can be selected during setup and opened for map and history context.

1. Go to Venues from the home screen
2. Tap + Add Venue
3. Enter the venue name and save the venue record — this saved identity is what sessions use for reliable linking
4. Enter the postcode — this enables automatic weather data during sessions and positions the map correctly
5. Optionally add: venue type (Lake, Reservoir, River, Canal, Pond, Commercial), notes, and syndicate/day ticket status
6. Tap Save

Why the saved venue matters

When you start a session, select the saved venue record from the results so the session has the correct venue identity. This saved-record link activates weather capture, lake features and map features. Use the same spelling as a helpful search aid, but do not rely on name matching alone; name matching is only a legacy fallback for older unlinked history.

Venue type

Setting a venue type (Lake, River, etc.) allows you to filter your Analytics by water type — useful if you fish a mix of syndicate lakes, reservoirs, and rivers.

What you can see in a saved venue

Each saved venue opens to a detail page with six tabs.

Intel

The Intel tab is your private notebook for this water. Record and refine your knowledge over time:

• Best Pegs — where fish show or where you've done well historically
• Best Tactics — rig, presentation, and approach notes
• Best Bait — what has produced on this water and in what conditions
• Best Time of Year — seasonal and weather patterns worth remembering

Use Generate with AI to have CatchMate analyse your logged sessions at this water and suggest entries automatically. Select whether to analyse Coarse sessions, Specimen sessions, or both before generating. All fields are editable before you save.

The bottom of the Intel tab includes the Ask the Advisor section, giving you direct access to personalised AI advice about this water — see below.

Bait

The Bait tab presents a statistical breakdown of what has worked at this venue:

• Bait Win Board — your top-performing baits ranked by catch rate per hour
• Winning combinations — the rig, hook bait, and method pairings that produced the most results
• Species vs. method matrix — which species you've caught on which approaches

History

The History tab lists every session you have logged at this venue in date order, and shows your species personal bests recorded there. Tap any session to review the full record.

Depths

The Depths tab stores water depth readings at specific swims or areas of the lake. Add depth profiles before a session to note shelf edges, drop-offs, silt versus gravel areas, and other bottom features.

Photos

The Photos tab holds a gallery of swim photos associated with this water. Photos are linked to the swim or area they were taken from, giving you a visual reference for margins, features, and seasonal changes across multiple visits.

Reviews

The Reviews tab lets you log personal ratings and session notes. Useful for tracking how a water fishes under different conditions, times of year, and pressure levels.

Ask the Advisor from the Intel tab

The Intel tab includes an Ask the Advisor section at the bottom. This gives you direct access to AI-driven advice about this specific water without leaving the venue page.

Four pre-built prompts are shown, for example:

• "Plan my next session at [Venue] — what should I focus on?"
• "How can I improve my catch rate at [Venue]?"
• "Walk me through what's working best at [Venue] and why."
• "What should I try differently at [Venue] on my next session?"

You can also type your own question into the free-text field and tap Send.

Tapping a prompt or submitting your own question opens a chat sheet over the venue page. Your catch history at this water — species and weights, tactics by catch rate per hour, best weather conditions, best session start times, recent sessions, and today's weather at the venue — is automatically included as context. You do not need to describe the water or your history to the Advisor.

The conversation is ephemeral and starts fresh each time. Use the follow-up input at the bottom to continue before closing. Tap ✕ or the background to return to the venue detail page.

Venue focus in the Angling Advisor

The Angling Advisor page also supports a venue focus mode. A venue selector in the header lets you choose any saved venue from a picker. When selected:

• A stats card displays your session count, total catches, average per session, your most-caught species, top rig and bait combination by catch rate, and live weather at the venue
• The quick-start prompts update to data-driven suggestions specific to this water — for example, why your top tactic works, how to target bigger fish, or what conditions to look for
• Every message — whether from a chip or typed yourself — automatically carries your full catch history at that water as context

Switch between venues at any time using the selector, or tap ✕ to return to general advice mode.
