Troubleshooting
Voice Entry not recognising me
If the Voice Entry button isn't picking up what you say (or isn't appearing at all), try the following.
1. Voice Entry must be enabled
Go to Profile → App Settings → Session Features and make sure Voice Entry is on. The microphone button only appears on the session screen when this is enabled.
2. Microphone permission
Your browser needs permission to use the microphone. The first time you tap the Voice button you'll be prompted — tap Allow. If you tapped Deny by mistake, reset the permission:
- iPhone: Settings → Safari → Microphone → Allow
- Android: Settings → Apps → CatchMate (or your browser) → Permissions → Microphone → Allow
3. Speak after the chime
Tap the Voice button, wait for the listening indicator, then speak. Speaking before the indicator appears means the first words are missed.
4. Use the supported phrasing
Voice Entry recognises common formats best — for example "Roach 1lb 4oz", "Three pound bream", or in multi-rod mode "Line 2 Carp 8lb". Imperial units (lb, lbs, pound, pounds, oz, ounces), metric units (kg, grams), spoken fractions ("and a half", "and a quarter") and decimals ("two point five kg") are all supported. See Logging catches for the full phrasings list. If a phrase is only partially recognised, the catch entry sheet opens with whatever was understood so you can finish it manually.
5. Background noise
Wind, running water, and chatter all interfere with recognition. Hold the phone closer to your mouth or shelter the microphone with your hand.
