Logging catches

Log a catch

During an active Specimen session, tap Add Catch when you land a fish. The catch is recorded against the active cast and its live timer duration; Add Catch does not create a second manual-duration cast.

Start a live catch entry from the Specimen session screen with Add Catch.

1. Tap Add Catch for the rod that landed the fish.

Choose the fish species from the Select Species screen.

2. Select the fish species from the grid.

After choosing a species, enter the catch weight and review Cast Duration.

3. Enter the weight using lb/oz or kg/g, according to the account's selected unit. Cast Duration is normally supplied by the active cast timer.

Weight and Cast Duration can be adjusted separately before logging the catch.

4. If the recorded duration needs correcting or the timer was not started, edit Cast Duration in separate minutes and seconds fields. Notes are optional.
5. Press Log Catch to save the catch. The values shown in the screenshots are illustrative, not required catch values.

Add a photo after saving

To add a photo to a saved catch, return to the main Session Detail page. Find the catch in Catch Log and tap the camera icon (Upload photo) on that catch card. Photos are added from the main session page, not from Log Weight.

Historical catch entry

For a fish caught before the current live session, use the separate historical catch flow. Do not use this form as the normal live Add Catch path.

The separate historical entry form records when the earlier catch happened, the tackle used, weight, and optional notes.

Personal best detection

If the weight you enter beats your previous best for that species, CatchMate detects it automatically and shows a PB celebration screen. From there you can generate a shareable PB certificate instantly.

Catch attribution

Each catch is linked to the tackle profile (rod, rig, bait) that was active on that rod at the time of logging. During an active cast, Add Catch uses that cast's live duration rather than creating another manual-duration cast. Quick Log and Voice Entry close the active cast after the catch is logged. For a deferred or earlier catch, use the separate manual catch flow and keep it associated with the genuinely earlier cast rather than attaching it to a current live timer. This powers the bait and tackle analytics in the Analytics and Intelligence sections.
